Mucking Around in Boats

14/11/2004: Erected just a few hours beforehand, our wallhanging is now the dazzling centre-piece of the new church as it is officially opened by Bishop Glenn Davies.

16/08/2004: Still sewing! As the wallhanging nears completion, the attention to detail seems to have increased. Teamwork has extended to alternate needle pushing on both the top and under sides of the frame.

09/09/2004: The final stitches have been inserted today. The St John's realisation of Pat Langford's brilliant design is now complete and will soon be mounted prominently in our new church. The project has occupied the hearts and minds of many volunteer workers throughout the past nine months and is a great credit to the late Mrs Langford and to all who have helped bring the wallhanging to fruition. The project turned out to be much bigger than expected, but the product is much more impressive than anyone imagined. Thanks to Helen and Patrick Whight for giving up their family room for so long, and congratulations to all those stretchers, tackers and sewers who contributed their time and talent.

Erected in the "Chancel", the wallhanging looks brilliant just prior to the opening ceremony.

Marion is all smiles as Judy concentrates on some of the final work.

IMGP3210Prue loves the challenge.JPG (48160 bytes) Prim and Rhonda share a joke whilst concentrating on the very fine detail of the crown of thorns.

Prim Brailey came down from Queensland in order to take part in the great stitch-a-thon.

Rhonda is a picture of concentration as she adds some glitter to the crown of thorns.

This close-up of the crown of thorns reveals that the thorns are actually padded and raised to give some added texture to the wall hanging. IMGP2941close up of careful stitches.JPG (61282 bytes)

Helen pushes a needle through to Linda who is on the other side (ouch!).
