Mucking Around in Boats

03/04/2004: A huge team of volunteers descended on Patrick and Helen Whight's house to stretch and tack the wall hanging fabric across purpose-built wooden frames. It was a very encouraging and satisfying big team effort, ensuring that just about every parishioner has had a hand in this project.

26/02/2004: Helen Whight's large family room was turned into a tapestry workshop as work on the wall hanging gathered pace. A significant amount of the Pat Langford design has now been realised in fabric and thread, due in no small part to the band of willing artisans that flock to Helen's house for the regular workshops. It is now most likely that the wall hanging will be completed long before the new church building. It will therefore be in place for the official opening.

After a heavy morning's stretching and tacking, the St John's team concentrates on what they do best - devouring their morning tea.

A completed row of very neat tacks retains one side of the fabric whilst the stretchers add tension from the other side.
