Notes for Bible Readers

   Preparation

When preparing at home, read the chapter before and after passage as well as the passage itself.  This will help you give the right emphasis to the passage.
You may sometimes find it helps to say a short introduction so that the congregation understand the context of the passage.

   At Church

Mark the passage in the lectern bible before the service.
Familiarise yourself with the switch for the microphone and the correct height.

   The reading

Give the page number of the reading in the pew bibles, before announcing the reading itself.
Allow people time to find the correct place.
Don’t read the headings that are in the bible, only the passage itself.
Remember to SLOW DOWN.

   At the finish

At the 8am service, the reading finishes with the words “here ends the " OT/gospel/epistle reading.
At the 9.30 and 6.30 service, there is no final saying, simply move away after finishing the passage.

Church Cleaning Duties

All cleaning equipment is stored in the cleaning room opposite the office, which does not need to be locked.

Replacement bags and instructions for the Hoover vacuum are in the metal cupboard.  The bag in the upright should be replaced about every 3 weeks.

The backpack should be emptied each week but the lining bag does not get changed.

A cleaner currently mops & cleans the toilets, kitchen and general areas on Fridays.

Any wet mops for spills or spot cleaning, should be returned to the cleaning room.

Rostered volunteers are asked to clean on Saturdays if possible, after Logos uses the facilities on Friday nights.  You should be notified if there is a wedding or other function that may affect the roster.

Tasks to be done by the church people are:

dust and vacuum the church floor and furniture;
tidy the backs of the pews if necessary;
clean the floors of the crèche;
if there are flowers in the church, check their condition and either water them or remove them;
check that all toilets have a spare toilet roll on the shelf in the cubicles.  Replacements are in the metal cupboard;
check the entrances and atrium for any leaves or rubbish that may have blown in.

If you notice any problems or have any suggestions, please get in touch with Helen Whight.

Thank you again for helping with these tasks.
