14 November 2004: The third generation St
John's Church at Asquith was officially opened by the Rt Rev Dr Glenn Davies,
Bishop of North Sydney. The opening ceremony was a joyous celebration of a
parish that had reached the culmination of a great effort - working under God,
to bring glory to God. The Bishop spoke from Matthew 16 on a sermon entitled
"Building on the Rock". He challenged the people of St Johns to
continue building the church - not with bricks and mortar, but with the hearts,
minds and souls of people brought to salvation in Jesus Christ.
Many of Nelly's photos below are presented
without captions, because the editor does not know the names behind all of the
faces. But the smiles and the infectious happiness that pervaded proceedings say
so much more than any caption can convey. The pictures speak for themselves.

Official attendance at the

- pronto!
The band in a relexed mood
(aren't they always?)
Some elaborate flower
arrangements were a feature of the opening.
Not yet operational, our
old pipe organ has taken on a glamorous new look, thanks to some
excellent refurbishment work by the "Organ Transplant Team".
All quiet in the Hall prior
to the seething mass of humanity hitting it at 3pm.
The old blue sign
presents a familiar face at the front of the building. This will soon be
replaced by a hi-tech illuminated sign.
